Description
A three season color factory, the Cherokee Brave Dogwood kicks off spring when its bare stems are loaded with deep rose-red 4-petaled flowers shaped just like the native white dogwood. A favorite snack for birds and other wildlife, bright red berries follow the flowers persisting through fall, at which time the rich green leaves begin to turn to shades of scarlet to burgundy-red in mid to late fall. For an even more spectacular springtime show, include a White Dogwood in your garden. The red and white flower combination is a wonderful sight to see!
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 20 to 30 feet tall and wide at maturity, the Cherokee Brave Red Dogwood is ideal for use as a specimen, in groupings, or in a staggered rows in sunny or shady landscape or woodland borders. That said, we think dogwoods look and perform their best in sites that provide some shelter from the hot afternoon sun. Also nice to frame the corners of tall homes and to provide beauty and some shade around patios, porches and other outdoor living spaces. A fine addition to woodland gardens, red or pink theme gardens, wildlife gardens. and cottage gardens.
Suggested Spacing: 30 feet or more for space between trees
Growing Preferences
Dogwood trees are adaptable to many soil types, preferring a moist but well-drained soil rich in organic matter. Constantly soggy or wet soils are problematic. Though Dogwood trees will tolerate full sun, we think they look and perform best with some shade or filtered sun during the hottest part of summer afternoons. Maintenance is minimal to none. Except to remove a stray or broken branch, no pruning is necessary.

I bought this to plant as a Memorial Tree to a very Dear Friend that passed. The tree came promptly and was so carefully packaged. It is 3-4 feet tall and looks healthy and robust.
