Description
A dramatic architectural plant that adds year round stunning color in the landscape, Color Guard Yucca is one of the most beautiful variegated yuccas ever to come on the market. Its sword-shaped leaves (without the dagger-like points) bear bold central stripes of bright canary-yellow against a rich celadon green edge. In cool weather, margins are tinged pink to salmon, and the entire yellow stripe turns rose-colored on many of the leaves through early spring. Towers of fragrant, nodding, bell-shaped, creamy-white flowers open in mid-summer on stout stems that rise 6 feet above the attractive 2-foot tall clumps.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 18 to 24 inches tall and 2 to 3 feet wide, the Color Guard Yucca is ideal for use as a specimen in small spaces or in groupings or mass plantings in sunny to partly shaded larger landscape borders and home foundation plantings. Looks very nice around garden ponds or in rock gardens near boulders and also makes a nice solo or centerpiece in containers of 14 inches or more in diameter. A fine addition to Asian gardens Asian/Japanese Gardens, yellow theme gardens, perennial gardens, rock gardens, tropical look gardens, and Xeriscape Gardens (low water needs). We like combining Yucca with other low water need plants such as junipers, barberry, abelia, ornamental grasses, and loropetalum.

Note: For our customers who live and garden North of USDA Cold Hardiness Zone 6a, where this Yucca variety is not reliably winter hardy, you’ll be happy to know it can be grown in containers that can be brought indoors during winter and placed back outside when temperatures warm up in spring.
Growing Preferences
Color Guard Yucca prefers an evenly moist to somewhat dry well-drained soil in full sun or part shade. No maintenance required except to remove spent flower stalks. Exceptionally drought tolerant when established.
