Description
Perfect as a focal point in the landscape or containers, this is the single trunk topiary tree form of the Fire Light Hydrangea. Changing colors throughout the long bloom season, the Fire Light Hydrangea sets the new standard to measure all hardy hydrangeas. Upright, large flower panicles on sturdy stems are packed with florets that open white, turn to pink, and then finally to deep pomegranate-pink. The flowers are great for cutting and use in fresh or dried floral arrangements. Fire Light is a more compact selection growing 5 to 6 feet tall and wide.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 5 to 6 feet tall and wide, the Firelight Hydrangea makes an impressive specimen in smaller garden spaces or a colorful grouping or low hedge in larger spaces. A fine addition to mixed flowering shrub borders, as an accent in home foundation plantings, as a background in perennial gardens, and in pots, planters and other containers. A fine addition to Hydrangea gardens, pink or red theme gardens, cut flower gardens, and cottage gardens.
Suggested Spacing: 4 feet apart for solid hedges; 10 feet or more apart for space between plants
Growing Preferences
Fire Light Hydrangea is very easy to grow in average, moist, well-drained soil and full sun to part shade. In the South, it grows best in a location where it will receive some shade or filtered sunlight during the hottest part of the afternoon. For best flowering provide at least 6 hours of sun a day. Note: Fire Light is a Hydrangea paniculata species that produces its flowers from buds that are formed on “new wood” (the current season’s growth). This means you don’t want to prune them in late spring or summer when they’re preparing to bloom.
