Mangave plants are easy to grow in the ground or in containers. Either way, they require a well-drained soil of average to low fertility and at least 7 hours or more of sunlight per day for best growth and coloration. As with most other succulent plants, they don’t like wet feet and have good drought tolerance when established. In containers, during summer when the plants are actively growing, they appreciate a bit of supplemental watering and half-strength fertilizer.

Description
We are very excited to introduce Mangave, a very cool intergeneric cross of Manfreda and Agave, combining the better growth rate and interesting coloration and patterns of Manfreda with the refined habit of Agave. Mangave is a perennial succulent plant that can be grown outdoors in the ground in USDA Zone 8-10, or in pots that can be left outdoors year round in Zones 9-10 but that will need to be overwintered indoors in Zones 8 and further north. They thrive in well-drained, dry to average soil and 7 hours or more of direct sun for best coloration and overall growth.
‘Mission To Mars’ Mangave gets its name due to the intense red coloration of its thick leaves that are heavily speckled and spotted with burgundy red, bleeding into each other for an overall red appearance. The best red coloration comes with 7 hours or more of direct sun or UV light per day. The long and arching leaves curve downward forming a mound. The margins of the leaves curl upward showing off cinnamon colored spines, which complement the red. Excellent in pots or garden beds and sure to be a conversation piece!
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 8 to 12 inches tall and 18 to 24 inches wide, the Mission To Mars Mangave is ideal for use as an accent in small spaces and as a solo or combined with other plants with low water needs in containers, or in groupings in larger spaces. It looks very nice and right at home around rocks and boulders. A fine addition to rock gardens, succulent gardens, red theme gardens, tropical look gardens, and Xeriscape Gardens (low water needs). We like combining Mangave with other low water need plants such as sedums and other succulents, junipers, barberry, abelia, and ornamental grasses.
Suggested Spacing: 3 feet or more apart for space between plants
Note: Hardy outdoors in USDA Zones 8 to 10b. For those who live and garden north of USDA Cold Hardiness Zone 9, Mangave can grown in outdoors in containers that can be brought indoors during winter and placed back outside when temperatures warm up in spring.

Arrived in great condition. The hints for unpacking by cutting away the collars is great. The plants are as handsome as the photos and doing fine with a week plus in the ground. Perfect solution for the spot I have them in.—————————————-We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy them for years to come! Thanks for the kind words and wonderful review! 🙂 Beth Steele | WBG
