Description
A hardy North American Native selection that is very easy to grow, the Red Swamp Hibiscus, also known as the Texas Star, is adored by folks and hummingbirds and butterflies alike for its large, star-shape crimson-red flowers with prominent central staminal columns that appear in abundance beginning in early to mid-summer and continue through early fall. Large plants 6 to 8 feet tall and 5 feet wide are clothed in deep green, palm-like leaves. Will grow in most any soil but thrives best in “swampy” conditions.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 6 to 8 feet tall and 4 to 5 feet wide, the Red Swamp Hibiscus is ideal for use as a specimen or in groupings or as a background plant in perennial, flowering shrub or landscape borders, especially where there is consistently moist soil and plenty of sunshine. Great around ponds, pools and other bodies of water. A fine addition to bog gardens, perennial gardens, tropical look gardens, hummingbird gardens and white theme gardens.
Suggested Spacing:  7 feet or more apart for space between plants
Growing Preferences
Swamp Hibiscus are very easy to grow. They will tolerate dry periods but are most happy in consistently moist to “swampy’ soils. Though they will tolerate some light shade, they will bloom their best in full to mostly sun. Maintenance is minimal. Prune annual in spring after new growth begins to emerge. At that time cut the plant back to just above the new growth.

5 stars for the Texas Star plant- good size plant with lots of healthy leaves.————————————–We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy it for years to come! Thanks for the kind words and great review! 🙂 Beth Steele | WBG
Order arrived today in excellent condition. Packing the best I have experienced when purchasing mail order plants. I plan not to disturb the plant in its current container until it initiates growth at which time it will relocated in the flower bed.
Thanks.———————————————————–Thanks for the kind words and wonderful review! We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy it for years to come! 🙂 Beth Steele | WBG
Greetings,
The attached pictures show the beautiful Texas Star Swamp Hibiscus
that I purchased from you.
As you can see, this large, scarlet flower stands out in the garden where it adds
a nice vertical element. This two-year
old specimen tops out at about eight
feet in height. Very tough, it thrives
in full sun in our hot, humid climate
where temps can exceed 100 degrees!
Hard to believe that this plant is doing
so well in poor clay-based gumbo soil.
Thank you for providing such fine,
healthy plants. I have been very pleased
with your plants and service.
Sincerely—————————————————————Thanks so much fo the lovely photos! We are so glad you are pleased with your purchase! Thanks for the kind words and great review! Beth | WBG 🙂
First one arrived in good shape and was planted in a low, soggy part of the yard. Doing very well and has been blooming for about a week. Very nice addition to my garden.———————————————————————————————-We are so glad you are pleased with your purchase! Thanks for the kind words and great review! Beth | WBG 🙂
Bought one red and one white plant. I am very pleased with the service and the quality of the plants as well as the care given during packing for shipment. Both plants arrived in great shape and are growing in our hot 100″s days. Only one little problem. Was not able to know which color was which until after planted and starting blooms.
Again GREAT JOB AND TRHANKS .
Carol Lasiter——————————————————————So sorry about the tagging….keep us posted, We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy them for years to come! Thanks for the kind words and great review! 🙂 Beth Steele | WBG
Very happy with my purchase – so much so that I made a second! In my first purchase, one plant arrived slightly damaged. but the Wilson Bros team quickly responded to my email and made the situation right! Happy to (and plan to!) order from them many more times.————————————————————————————-We are so glad you are pleased with your purchase! Thanks for the kind words and great review! Beth | WBG 🙂
I was over the top with joy when my package arrived from Wilson Bros today with both red and white hibiscus. The packaging was beyond outstanding and the condition of the plants was even more outstanding than the packaging. I had tried to grow these guys from seeds however at the rate of growth, I think I would be dead before I would see the magnificence of these plants so I ordered. I think they will bloom this year but certainly by next year but I know it will be this year. They were so HUGE for a one gallon size and I was like a small child at Christmas rather than a 78 year old lady!!! If you would really like a show stopper plant, this is it for you. I like the idea of red and white blooming together. Cannot recommend this highly enough — not enough superlatives to use! Thanks Wilson for making not only my day but week month and hopefully years to come for the rest of my LIFE. Gives me more to live for!!———————————————————————————————————————–Thanks so much for your review. Let us know if there’s ever anything we can help you with. 🙂 – Beth | WBG
Arrived in good shape and is already growing a few weeks after plant.———————————–We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy it for years to come! Thanks for the great review! 🙂 Beth Steele | WBG
All of your plants are the best! On time, healthy, and shipped well.
All have been planted in my pollinator-certified NWF Certified Wildlife Habitat and doing very well.
Thank you.———————————————————Thats awesome!! We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy them for years to come! Thanks for the great review! 🙂 Beth Steele | WBG
My reviews of Wilson Bros. sound like a broken record. This is my third plant and third EXCELLENT result. The plant, the packing and the shipping are all outstanding. As a multi generational Texan I was THRILLED to get a Texas Star. Planted immediately upon arrival, spent a mere 24 hours getting over shipping shock and is off and running. Cannot say enough about the folks and their plants and the care they take to get them to you!——————————————Wow!!! We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy it for years to come! Thanks for the kind words and great review! 🙂 Beth Steele | WBG
I love that this plant is a fast grower. Each day I see amazing growth. I can’t wait until it blooms! I love that the flower is unique. That’s what I look for.
