Description
A truly magnificent garden jewel, Sacred Dance, Camellia japonica ‘Daikagura’, sports one of the most unique and impressive flowers of any winter flowering camellia on the market today. The peony-form flowers are dark pink, rose-red and red, and are speckled, blotched and splashed with white variegation in different patterns on the petals. That said, some strains will present darker red or lighter pink with the white variegation. No matter what the color of the flower, bright yellow stamens will be noticed peeking out from the center. A truly remarkable Camellia that deserves a spot in every garden where it can be grown (USDA Zones 7a-9b).
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 8 to 10 feet tall and 6-8 feet wide depending on pruning, the Sacred Dance Camellia can be grown as a large shrub or small tree. As a shrub it is ideal for use as a specimen, in groupings, or as hedge or background plant. It is especially nice as espalier (trained to grow flat against a wall) or corner plant in home foundation plantings. As this camellia grows taller, lower branches can be removed to form a small evergreen tree that serves well as an attractive and colorful specimen in landscape borders and home foundation plantings. A fine addition to red color theme gardens, camellia gardens, cottage gardens, and woodland borders. Also suitable for containers that can be brought indoors during winter by those who live and garden above USDA Zone 7a, where this camellia variety is not reliably winter hardy. Find Your Zone

Growing Preferences
Camellia adapt well to various soil types however prefer a moist but well-drained acidic soil that is rich in organic matter. Constantly soggy soil is a slow killer. In general, Camellia grows and blooms better in partial shade with some shelter from the hot afternoon sun. Morning sun with afternoon shade or filtered sunlight is perfect. All-day filtered sun is fine.
