Description
A dwarf form of the True Forget-Me-Not that grows 6 to 8 inches tall, ‘Semperflorens’ is a vigorous and spreading selection with heavier and longer flowering than the species. It features abundant clusters of very pretty soft blue flowers with yellow, pink or white eyes in the spring and then sporadically through summer all the way to frost. Because it will self-sow from seeds and likes a consistently moist to wet soil, it is excellent for naturalizing or as a groundcover or filler plant in partially shaded to shady areas where the soil doesn’t dry out, hence its other common name of Water Forget-Me-Not. Other perennial plants and bulbs will pop right through it in spring. Forget-Me-Not is the state flower of Alaska, which is a testament to its cold hardiness.
Landscape & Garden Uses
‘Semperflorens’ True Forget-Me-Not is ideal for use as a low border along garden beds, paths and walkways or to naturalize in partially shaded woodland borders and other partially shaded areas of the garden where the soil stays moist to wet. For streams and ponds, place new plants directly in the soils of muddy banks at the water line. For garden ponds, plant in pots and situate these in the margin where they will thrive in up to 3 inches of standing water. Excellent as a filler plant in perennial gardens as other types of perennial and flowering bulb plants will pop right through its foliage in spring. A wonderful addition to mixed container gardens. A fine addition to cottage gardens, meadow gardens, woodland gardens, rock gardens and blue theme gardens.
Suggested Spacing: 15″ apart for mass plantings or border
