Description
Adding an extremely fine and delicate texture to the landscape or garden, the Silver Lemon Thyme is a showy, spreading evergreen Thymus displaying abundant clusters of bright purple flowers that nearly smother the variegated foliage during summer. Though excellent for ornamental use and color in the garden, this Thyme is also ideal for culinary use. Its small white and green leaves have a savory taste and lemony fragrance and are excellent for cooking, drying, seasoning and teas. The leaves can be harvested any time of year.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing in a low carpet 3 to 4 inches tall with flowers to 6 inches tall and spreading to 18 inches or more over time, Silver Lemon Thyme is ideal for use in the landscape or edible garden as a border along paths and walkways or massed as a groundcover or underplanting for shrubs, roses and small trees, such as Japanese maples. Also excellent in pots as a soil cover and spiller plant. A fine addition to herb gardens, edible landscape pr garden, rock gardens and the Xeriscape (low water needs).
Suggested Spacing: 12 to 18 inches for mass planting or solid borders

Growing Preferences
When planted right and in the right spot, Silver Lemon Thyme is easy to grow. It grows best in light, lightly moist to dry, well-drained soil and full sun. A little shade is okay. Will tolerate rainy periods but constantly soggy or wet soil is a killer. So make sure to plant in a well-drained site.
Note: Find helpful advice from our experts under the Planting & Care tabs above on desktop monitors and below on mobile phones.
Harvest leaves as needed in the morning after dew has dried or before flowering in midsummer. The entire plant may be harvested by cutting back to 2 inches above the ground. The plant will recover before the end of the season; however, it may not be as winter hardy.
