Description
A fine selection for the sensory garden, the Setsugekka Camellia is adorned with an abundance of wonderfully fragrant and gorgeous bright white flowers over a long period from early fall all the way to December! The semi-double flowers have ruffled petals that surround a boss of bright golden stamens for extra added appeal. Gracefully arching branches and dark green foliage are a perfect backdrop and contrast of color for the large flowers. If you are looking to brighten up the fall and winter landscape, Setsugekka is a great choice. The flowers are excellent for cutting and displaying in your favorite vase.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 8 to 10 feet tall and 5 to 7 feet wide, the Setsugekka Camellia can be grown as a shrub or small tree. As a shrub it is ideal for use as a specimen, in groupings, or as a hedge or background plant in landscape borders and is specially nice as a corner plant or espalier (trained to grow flat against a wall) in home foundation plantings. As the plant grows, lower branches can be removed to form a highly attractive and elegant small evergreen tree that serves well as a focal point specimen in landscape borders and home foundation plantings. A fine addition to fragrance gardens, camellia gardens, white theme gardens, cottage gardens, cut flower gardens and woodland borders. Also suitable for containers that can be brought indoors during winter by those who live above USDA Zone 7a, where this Camellia variety is not reliably winter hardy. Find Your Zone
Suggested Spacing: 5 feet apart for solid hedge; 10 feet or more apart for space between plants
Note:  For our customers who live and garden north of USDA Plant Hardiness Zone 7a, where this Camellia variety is not reliably winter hardy, you’ll be happy to know it can be grown in containers that can be brought indoors during winter and placed back outside when temperatures warm up in spring.
Growing Preferences
Camellia adapt well to various soil types however prefer a moist but well-drained acidic soil that is rich in organic matter. Constantly soggy soil is a slow killer. In general, Camellia grows and blooms better in partial shade with some shelter from the hot afternoon sun. Morning sun with afternoon shade or filtered sunlight is perfect. All-day filtered sun is fine.

When I ordered these camellia sasanquas, I didn’t know where Wilson Bros. was located. Than when they came in a big box I saw you are in Georgia. With some trepidation I opened the box to find two lovely strong looking healthy plants. Relieved and delighted. Thank you!————————————————-We are so glad you are pleased with your purchase! Thanks for the kind words and great review! Beth | WBG 🙂
During the miserable year of Covid-isolation, I have ordered dozens of plants for my garden. My Wilson Brothers sasanqua is the hands-down best of them all! The plant is super healthy and bigger than I expected. I am going to try an espalier…..cant wait to see her in bloom. Thanks!—————————————-We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy it for years to come! Thanks for the kind words and great review! 🙂 Beth Steele | WBG
Hey Guys,
The plants were in great shape when they got here. We are about two hours south of you, so we had to select and area to put them in . Setsugeka has been planted so that it will get about 3 hours of morning/midday sun under an oak tree. It is surrounded by General Clay azalea on the back side of the plant. Looking forward to seeing blooms next year.
We have an older Kanjiro that was planted under pine trees that were lost when Michael paid us a visit two years ago. It is now in full sun, and amazingly the plant is blooming like never before. Plant is 10 years old and covered in blossoms. The Kanjiro I got from you guys is planted under some oak trees and will receive about 3-4 hours of morning/midday sun. It was in great shape and covered in blooms when it got here.
It’s a real please buying nice plants from you guys at a reasonable price. Looking forward to more purchases in the future.

I ordered the “Camellia-Setsugekka” and a few others camellias from Wilson brothers and was very skeptical at first. I live in Portland, OR and their nursery is located diagonally across the continent in GA. FedEx initially lost the package and mentioned corona-induced delay etc) but finally, it came to my doorstep after more than a week from the estimated time of delivery.
The packaging was top-notch to prevent soil from falling off. It took me some time to rip out the cardboard box and inside was this wonderful plant. – very hardy and in excellent condition with dark green foliage and a number of buds already forming for the winter season.
I thoroughly watered it and planted it in my garden with soil preparation as suggested. Hopefully will yield great results in the years to come. and keep the winters bright.
PS: One of the buds has opened up and I could see the beautiful white camellia with yellow stamen.
PPS: Their choice of camellias you cannot beat elsewhere and I cannot get them in the local nurseries or big box stores. I need more exotic tropical, aromatic flowering plants and will contact them if they can cultivate or engineer.———————————–Wow!! We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy it for years to come! Thanks for the kind words and great review! 🙂 Beth Steele | WBG
PLANT REC’D IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. PLANTED IN POT AND AM WAITING TO SEE/SMELL THE BLOOMS THAT WILL ARRIVE IN A COUPLE OF WEEKS. LOTS OF THEM AS WELL.——————————————–We are so glad you are pleased with your purchase! Thanks for the great review! Beth | WBG 🙂
I have been re-landscaping and therefore have needed lots of plants. I have shopped both locally and nationally, trying out a wide range of businesses. Out of all of the businesses that shipped me bushes, Wilson Brothers is the best. Their plants are large, healthy, well-marked, and they provide good planting information. I put in a second order after I saw how good the first order was.—————————————-Thanks for the great review! We are so glad you are pleased! Beth | WBG
